Self Driving Cars, the Wave of the Future or a Nightmare Waiting to Happen?

The Passengers by John Marrs Hey 1000 Bookies!   For my book club at work this month we read the thriller, The Passengers by John Marrs.   This is the second book written by the author that I have read, and the book did not disappoint.   In fact, it scared the heck out of me.   The first book I read by Mr. Marrs was entitled, The One , which I would also highly recommend.   The Passengers is fast paced book and there were times that I reluctantly put it down.   That is a great sign for a book.   At approximately 350 pages, its not a long slog nor a particularly hard slog.   Moments of the book left me sitting at the edge of my seat.   If you want a good thriller, pick up The Passengers .   The book is set in Great Britain.   The premise of the story revolves around a future alternate universe, so The Passengers is ultimately a science-fiction story.   In the future there are self-driving cars, with science and tech...

Irish Gold, One of my Favorite Books for St. Patricks Day

Irish Gold In honor of St. Patrick’s Day and my Irish heritage, I wanted to write a post about one of my favorite books of all time.   Irish Gold by Andrew Greeley is one of the most absolutely charming books I have ever read.   The story is a great mystery and the start of a series featuring the detective, Nuala McGrail and her man, Dermot Coyne.   Irish Gold is the first (and in my humble opinion the best) of the what would become a series of 12 mysteries touched with history.   The book is approximately 330 pages and I believe a fun read.   My mother originally discovered the story when she was looking for a book for a trip to Bermuda and was so excited to send it to me.   I have recommended and purchased this book for many people.   I read Irish Gold at least once a year.   The story is about an American dilettante, Dermot Coyne who goes to Ireland to escape family pressure, two lost loves, and fear of failure.   Dermot strike...

“His book is a beautiful narrative of childhood and youth, of the horrors of the First World War, of heady early success in the theater; of the encroaching terror of World War II as it destroyed a world of great human substance and dignity” Carl Zuckmayer's A Part of Myself, A Portrait of an Epoch by Jim Romano Hey 1000 Bookies!!!   The next book on our quest of reading The 1,000 Books to Read Before You Die, our latest is a memoir by German author and playwright Carl Zuckmayer.   A Part of Myself is the 1000 th and last book on this imperious list.   The book is a fascinating read about a time very long ago.   Carl Zuckmayer was a member of the German Intelligentsia and artistic community during the Weimar Republic (1919-1933) and was a leading anti-Nazi activist and critic.   Zuckmayer is best remembered for the movie script, The Blue Angel .   The 1930 German movie starred Marlena Dietrich and Emil Jannings. Mr. Zuckmayer wrote several othe...
